Greenwood man convicted of sex crimes arrested after missing trial

A Greenwood man who failed to appear at trial for sexual misconduct with a minor has been arrested.

David Bailey, 37, was arrested Monday in West Virginia, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

The sheriff's office is currently working to return Bailey to Indiana, where he will prepare for sentencing on Sept. 6. Bailey was convicted by a Johnson County jury on Aug. 7 of sexual abuse of a minor, a Level 4 felony, and faces up to 12 years in prison.

The conviction stems from an August 2022 investigation by Greenwood Police. Bailey is alleged to have sexually abused a child from 2019 to 2021.

During the trial two weeks ago, the Johnson County District Attorney's Office presented evidence and the jury found Bailey guilty as charged after just 37 minutes of deliberation, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's Office.

Bailey failed to appear in court for his hearing, and later that day Judge Douglas Cummins of the Third Superior Court in Johnson issued a no-bail warrant for his arrest.

Burgess thanked the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the United States Marshals Office Service for their work in arresting Bailey.
