Former Auburn tight end released by Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have released former Auburn tight end CJ Uzomah, the NFL team announced on Wednesday.

The New York Jets released Uzomah on March 13 with a failed medical exam and one season remaining on a three-year, $24 million contract. Uzomah signed a one-year deal with the Eagles on April 11.

In Philadelphia's two preseason games, Uzomah was on the ball in 30 offensive plays and had one pass reception for over 3 yards.

The Eagles have six tight ends left on their preseason roster. Dallas Goedert, the starter, did not play in the preseason. Tight ends EJ Jenkins with 71 and Kevin Foelsch with 52 played more offensive snaps than Uzomah in the two preseason games.

Uzomah finished the 2023 season on the injured list after suffering a medial ligament injury in a 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Dec. 3. He missed the final five games of the season.

Uzomah had eight pass catches for 58 yards and a touchdown in 12 games with eight starts in 2023 while appearing on 239 offensive snaps and 148 special teams plays.
