Machete threats in Alsip and Beecher and more

The following information was taken from police and court reports and press releases. An arrest does not constitute a conviction.

Alsip

STRANGLING: Ahmad Khatatbeh, 57, of Alsip, is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Bridgeview on Sept. 10. He is charged with aggravated assault/strangulation stemming from an Aug. 7 complaint, according to a court spokesman. The victim, who was unable to call an ambulance for hours because her cellphone was taken away, was treated at a local medical center for broken ribs and a punctured lung, police said.

THREAT WITH A MACHETE: Shekinah C. Docks, 26, 4600 block of 122nd Street, Alsip, was arrested Aug. 10 and charged with aggravated assault after threatening a former boyfriend with a machete, police said.

AFTER-ASSASSINATION: A Chicago Heights woman was arrested on July 28 for domestic violence, property damage and trespassing after she refused to leave a home in the Pheasant Lake Estates development, police said. Kaci L. Harris, 37, 19400 block of Glenwood-Chicago Heights Road, was also charged with felony assault on a police officer after she pushed and attempted to strike the officer who caused the incident inside the home and then outside the home, sheriff's police said.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Richard P. Diaz, 44, 8700 block of 51st Avenue, Oak Lawn, was charged Aug. 6 with breaking into a home in the 8800 block of Harlem Avenue on March 18, police said. Oak Lawn officers arrested Diaz during a traffic stop on Aug. 6, police said.

Burbank

MACHETE THREAT: David S. Odette, 55, 7900 Mulligan Avenue, is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Bridgeview on Sept. 21. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault stemming from a July 21 complaint in which he threatened neighbors with a machete, police said.

Crestwood

GIRL ATTACKED: Detectives continue to investigate two reports of a man attempting to physically touch a girl a few blocks south of Nathan Hale Middle School earlier this month. On the morning of Aug. 6, a girl was walking north on Long Avenue between 135th and 137th streets when the driver of a southbound car attempted to talk to her, turned around, pulled up next to her and tried to get out of the vehicle as she fled, police said. Three days earlier, a man walking east on 137th Street in the afternoon passed a girl walking her dog, turned around and grabbed the girl by the shoulders, causing her to run home, police said.

Crete

RELEASE DENIED: A Will County judge on Aug. 13 denied a Kokomo, Indiana, man's request for pretrial release, agreeing with prosecutors that he meets the state's dangerousness standards because he poses a real and present threat to the safety of the community, online court records show. Christian Saavedra, 32, who is charged with drunken driving (fourth offense), was transporting alcohol when he was pulled over July 1, police said. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Aug. 27, court records show.

Money

FAKE PAYMENT: A man who completed a $900 transaction for a set of tires at a rest stop on Facebook Marketplace on Aug. 9 and received 10 $100 bills in the process told police he realized only four of the bills were real after he was unable to reach the buyer to refund the $100 he overpaid.

New Lenox

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: A person stole cash from the cash register at Pizza Mia, 830 Laraway Road, shortly after midnight on August 13, after forcing open the front door.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: In a residential burglary reported Saturday, the front door of a home in the 400 block of Rossford Lane was forced open and a safe containing jewelry and personal documents was stolen.

Oak lawn

ARMED ROBBERY: An armed man robbed the Shell gas station, 10601 Cicero Ave., at about 10:40 p.m. Aug. 4 while several customers were filling up, police said. No one was injured, police said.

AFTER-HOURLY BODILY INJURY: A traffic dispute between a tow truck driver and another motorist on Aug. 6 that began at the corner of 105th Street and Central Avenue ended with the tow truck driver's arrest on a charge of felony assault, police said. Mazen M. Ismail, 21, of an unspecified block of Mayfield Avenue, Oak Lawn, pointed a gun at the other motorist in the 5400 block of 115th Street, police said.

Orlando Park

MACHINE GUN: A Homewood man was arrested during a traffic stop Aug. 2 at the corner of 151st Street and Regent Drive with a Glock 22 .40-caliber pistol with an automatic conversion switch and a loaded magazine, police said. Akeem D. Thompson, 35, first block of Ravisloe Lane, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no state firearms license, police said.

EMPLOYEE THEFT: Sidra Naseem, 29, 15700 block of 86th Avenue, Orland Park, was arrested Aug. 2 at Kohl's, 3 Orland Park Place, and charged with shoplifting after she took advantage of her position as an employee to steal merchandise totaling $1,259.39 from July 11 to Aug. 1, police said.

Palos Hills

STOLEN CARS: A 2017 Chevrolet SS, a 2016 Corvette and a 2018 Cadillac CTS-V were reported stolen from the parking lot of Baha Auto Group, 11001 Southwest Highway, on Aug. 16. Police said several people were involved in the theft, which occurred just after 3 a.m.

Steger

SERIOUS BODILY INJURY: A Steger Fire Department paramedic was scratched on the face and neck by a 24-year-old man during an ambulance ride to a medical facility on August 4. He also threatened to harm him and his family, police said. Police declined to identify the suspected perpetrator, citing doctor-patient confidentiality.

Tinley Park

SHOOTING: A teenager suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting Sunday near McCarthy Park, police said in an online statement. Officers secured the scene and identified the gunman, police said.
