White Sulphur Springs man pleads guilty to gun charges

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) – A Greenbrier County man pleaded guilty in federal court today, August 21.

Wilbur Curtis Arnold Jr., 58, of White Sulphur Springs, pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Court documents showed that when police arrested Arnold on an arrest warrant on April 29, they found a Winchester Model 190 .22 caliber rifle in his apartment.

Arnold also took a Rock Island Armory Model 1911 .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol to a store in White Sulphur Springs and sold it for $300.

Arnold presented his identification and signed a purchase agreement for the sale of the weapon.

Arnold was prohibited from possessing an unexploded firearm because he was convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to resell on March 7, 2016.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 19. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, up to three years probation and a $250,000 fine.
