Chicago man charged in 2023 highway shooting that left three people dead, including two children

A Chicago man has been charged in connection with a shooting on I-57 that left three people dead last winter.

Sean Richardson, 20, was arrested by Chicago police on Monday, August 19, on other charges.

According to Illinois State Police, Richardson allegedly shot at a car on I-57 northbound near 116th Street on February 19, 2023.

Police were called to the Morgan Park neighborhood and found the driver and three other people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims – a 19-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy – were pronounced dead at the scene.

All four victims were taken to a local hospital, including a 1-year-old girl who was later pronounced dead. The Cook County Coroner's Office identified the victims as Nasir Hall, 19, his daughter A-mara Hall, 1, and William Smith, 13.

Smith was an eighth-grader at the Montessori School of Englewood. According to school officials, he was related to the other two victims of the shooting.

Richardson has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is being held in the Cook County Jail awaiting his first court date.
