2 Clearfield County men charged in deadly house bombing over drug debt

Two Clearfield County men have been charged with bombing a Clearfield apartment and killing a person over a drug debt of several hundred dollars, according to federal prosecutors.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania Eric Olshan announced Wednesday that Clint Addleman, 47, of Morrisdale, and Kris J. Nevling, 47, of Houtzdale, were charged with malicious damage to property by explosive or fire resulting in death and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

According to a federal grand jury indictment, Addleman was a drug dealer who operated in and around Clearfield, obtaining and distributing large quantities of meth. In the summer of 2019, Addleman “advanced” several hundred dollars worth of meth to a customer who lived in an apartment building on East Market Street.

In a press release, federal officials did not name the woman.

When the money was not repaid after several months, Addleman initially threatened to harm her, according to prosecutors. He later constructed a bomb with Nevling that was sent to the woman's home on October 4, 2019. Later that morning, the bomb exploded, killing the woman and causing significant property damage.

“Clint Addleman and Kris Joseph Nevling were responsible for building a bomb that murdered one of Addleman's methamphetamine clients and almost completely leveled the building in which she lived,” said U.S. Attorney Olshan. “This conduct – deadly retaliation for nothing more than an outstanding drug debt – shocks the conscience and has no place in our communities or anywhere else.”

Addleman is currently in prison in another state case, and Nevling was arrested after his first indictment nearly a year ago.

Pre-trial motions in this case must be filed by October 1.
