Two people charged after fatal moped accident

CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) – Police in southern Kentucky have now charged two people in connection with a moped crash on I-75 that left a 10-year-old dead.

The accident occurred on August 4 when a Kia collided with the moped on I-75 near Corbin.

The girl's mother, Danisha Martin, was charged with accessory to murder. Police said she let her daughter get on a moped with a drunk Darius Wade.

The moped driven by Wade was hit by a Kia Sportage. Wade was injured and the girl was killed in the accident.

Martin knew about Wade's drinking problem and said he had drunk six beers during the day and then rode the girl on his moped to the highway.

Martin says she wanted to cancel on her daughter at first, but later allowed her to go get something to eat with Wade.

“And I know I would never put my child in danger. I know he would never put children in danger. He has two children of his own,” Martin said.

According to court documents, Wade emitted a strong odor of alcohol that caught the attention of firefighters and police.

Police said they also conducted a blood test on Darius Wade, but the tests are still pending.
