FBI investigates after maggots were allegedly released into DNC delegates' breakfast

The FBI in Chicago is investigating after several women allegedly entered a hotel hosting delegates to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday and released maggots into their breakfast foods, authorities told The National Desk (TND).

A group of unidentified women are said to have entered the Fairmont Chicago at around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday and released the larvae on a table with food. They then fled the scene, authorities said.

A “victim” of the incident was “treated on site and released.” The DNC did not respond to a telephone request from The National Desk (TND) on Wednesday for comment.

The incident is reminiscent of the maggot infestation at the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC in July, which was carried out by anti-Israel demonstrators protesting against a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

A video shared with X in July showed a Watergate conference room riddled with maggots and hallways teeming with crickets. The clip also showed the hotel's alarm system reporting that the fire alarm had been set off.

Wednesday's incident came during the third day of protests outside the DNC. Pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted a DNC Women's Caucus event on Tuesday. An activist group called for protests to continue throughout the convention, calling the demonstration “hell week.”

Other pro-Palestinian demonstrations on Tuesday took an anti-American turn after a group of protesters burned the Stars and Stripes in the street.

“This is what we think of you damn scoundrels!” a speaker shouted to the cheering crowd. “You are all responsible for the burning and charring of the American flag.”
