Complaint filed against Judge Mazahar Naqvi over asset and audio leaks – Pakistan

On Thursday, a complaint was filed with the Supreme Judicial Council against Judge Mazahar Naqvi, demanding an investigation into his assets as well as the recent audio leaks.

The lawsuit alleges that the judge amassed wealth beyond his means and made changes to his 2021 tax returns to “adjust” the value of a property. The judge has requested an audit of the judge's assets, as well as those of his family.

The source states that Justice Mazahar's assets are worth over Rs 3 billion. It also states that the judge owns a one-kanal plot in FECHS, a one-kanal plot in Supreme Court Housing Society, a two-kanal plot in Lahore's Gulberg and a four-kanal plot in Lahore's St. John Garden. He also claims to own a square in Gujranawala, which is not included in his assets.

The case was filed by lawyer Mian Dawood, who also represented Naveed, the man who allegedly shot Imran Khan in November last year.

The Pakistan Bar Association had decided to file a case against the judge over the alleged audio leaks between former Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi and his lawyer. In the alleged recording, Elahi is seen talking to his lawyer about bringing cases before a particular Supreme Court judge.

Justice Mazahar is also one of the two judges who have been accused by the PML-N of being “biased” towards the party. The party has asked the judges to divest themselves of the benches hearing cases related to the party.

The judge is also part of the panel that will ex officio deal with the order to postpone the elections to the provincial assemblies in KP and Punjab.
