Trump fires back at Obama's DNC speeches after viral hand gesture: 'Should I get personal?'

Donald Trump wasted no time in hitting back after the Obamas' scathing remarks during the Democratic National Convention. On Wednesday, the former president responded to what he viewed as the “personal” nature of their attacks and suggested that their criticism might warrant a stronger response from him.

In his historic appearance on the second night of the DNC, Barack Obama poked fun at Trump's obsession with crowd size, even making a hand gesture that presumably mocked the Republican candidate and quickly went viral. Earlier, Michelle Obama sharply criticized Trump and turned on its head one of his most controversial campaign slogans, “Black Jobs.”

Trump criticizes Obama’s “personal” attack

“Did you see Barack Hussein Obama throwing little attacks last night? He was making references to your president and Michelle too,” Trump was heard saying at a campaign rally in Asheboro, North Carolina. “You know, they always say, 'Sir, please stick to politics, don't get personal,' but these people are getting personal all night,” he said, venting his anger and attacking his former rivals.

It is clear that the dispute between Trump and Obama has been going on for a long time, but it is not just about politics; it is also about personal dislike. These tensions were exacerbated when Trump spread the false story that Barack Obama was not born in the United States. This behavior is also evident in Trump's attacks on Kamala Harris, where he repeatedly doubts her background and even says she is not really black.

“Do I still have to follow the guidelines?”

Trump was reportedly urged by his party colleagues to avoid personal attacks on his opponents and focus on the serious problems facing the country. He drew them to his speech, mimicked them and said, “Sir, you have to stick to your policies. You're going to win on the border. You're going to win on inflation. You're going to win on your great military that you've built.” He asked, “Do I still have to stick to my policies?”

Later in his speech, he received loud applause from his supporters when he vented his frustration and asked, “Should I get personal, or should I not get personal?”

What did Obama actually say about Trump during the DNC?

Obama stepped into the spotlight after Trump praised him with a “gentlemanly” remark, calling Trump a 78-year-old rich guy who has been whining since he announced his candidacy for president nine years ago. He highlighted Trump's immature antics, wild conspiracy theories and bizarre fixation on crowd sizes.

“There has been a constant stream of complaints and grievances, which has actually gotten worse now that he's afraid of losing to Kamala. There are the childish nicknames, the crazy conspiracy theories, this weird obsession with crowd size,” he said on the second day of the Democratic National Convention.
