North Little Rock Police establish real-time crime center

The NLRPD is the latest police department in Arkansas to establish a real-time crime center as technology continues to advance in the state.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – A new partnership is forming between North Little Rock and Little Rock: Both agencies have decided to work together in using their new Real Time Crime Center to respond more quickly to crimes.

Sergeant Gary Jones of the North Little Rock Police Department explained that this new system has been in the works for the police department for several years. He also said that it has already shown promising results.

“It really helps give the police more eyes and it also helps protect and ensure the safety of the citizens and visitors to our city,” added Sergeant Jones.

Sergeant Jones, the department's supervisor, said this new software will give them access to the city's cameras and integrate with businesses to assist in an emergency.

“As soon as the emergency call comes in, we can start searching and keep an eye on the situation. We can pass that information on to our emergency responders when they arrive in the area and tell them what we see on the ground,” he said.

According to Sergeant Jones, the partnership with the LRPD provides a function that allows the agencies to communicate with each other and inform each other of current events.

“Because the city is divided by a river, if something happens here or there and we have a description of the suspect, we can send them a message real quick. Then we have them look for a vehicle that might be crossing the bridge into their city and they can get that information in real time,” said Sergeant Jones.

Regardless of whether the crime is major or minor, North Little Rock Police encourage area residents to use the system as well.

“This takes a little pressure off our investigators because they no longer have to walk through the neighborhoods. If a lot of people register their cameras, it saves a lot of time and we can get the information faster,” said Sergeant Jones.
