Trevor Lang will begin his prison sentence for the murder of Ruben Trevino in 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Trevor Lang has begun a 25-year murder sentence with the possibility of parole. He is accused of shooting 38-year-old Ruben Trevino on Dodd Street in May 2022.

In court this year, Lang pleaded guilty and took full responsibility for the murder.

This prompted prosecutors to request more details about what happened that night. They offered Lang a plea deal that required an address or a full confession.

He had to take the stand and describe everything as it happened on the day of the shooting.

Lang's lawyer, who told 3NEWS what prompted him to accept the deal.

“I think he accepted the idea that a fair jury could find him guilty of the capital crime, which is a life sentence without parole,” Lang's attorney said. “They had considered the death penalty and he didn't want to take the risk of a jury imposing a harsher sentence, so he accepted the deal.”

Evidence and the speech showed that Trevino and Lang were friends but argued about drugs the night of the shooting.
