Former UA student released on bail for rape and voyeurism and forced to wear ankle bracelet

A former University of Alabama student accused of rape and voyeurism after allegedly filming the assault of a fellow student has been released on bail under several conditions. In a release order filed Wednesday, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff was given authority to release Gambill Gentry, 23. To stay out of jail, Gentry must meet the following conditions: He must post bail in the form of a 100% cash deposit of $60,000. He must wear a GPS ankle bracelet. He must not “contact the victim, the victim's family, or the victim's circle of friends in any way, directly or indirectly.” He must not attend any University of Alabama event of any kind or location. He must not possess or be in the vicinity of a firearm. He may only leave the state to receive treatment at an inpatient facility named to him by his attorneys during the bail hearing. Once he receives cell phone access from the aforementioned facility, he must immediately install an “accountability application.” He will be subject to random drug testing, the cost of which he will be responsible for. He is prohibited from consuming or possessing alcohol. Gentry was arrested in July after a weeks-long investigation by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office. A UA student's report of a sexual assault that lasted several weeks was received. Investigators soon received photo and video evidence that clearly showed the student being attacked while unconscious. A video of the alleged assault was sent to a friend of the victim, according to court documents. The same documents state that images of the victim taken during the attack and found by police during a search of Gentry's phone included the text “easy rape tn.” On July 25, Gentry was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and multiple counts of first-degree voyeurism. >> FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube The Violent Crimes Unit believes, based on evidence collected during the investigation, that Gentry may have assaulted others. In a release order filed Wednesday, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff was given authority to release 23-year-old Gambill Gentry.

To avoid prison, Gentry must meet the following conditions:

  • He must post bail in the form of a 100% cash deposit of $60,000
  • He must wear a GPS ankle bracelet
  • He may not “contact the victim, his family or the victim’s circle of friends, either directly or indirectly and in any way”.
  • He is not allowed to attend any University of Alabama event, regardless of location.
  • He may not possess or be near a firearm
  • He can only leave the state for treatment at an inpatient facility named by his attorneys during his bail hearing.
  • As soon as he is granted mobile phone access by the said establishment, he must immediately install a ‘responsibility application’.
  • He will be subjected to random drug tests, the costs of which he will have to bear himself.
  • He may not consume or possess alcohol

Gentry was arrested in July after the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office conducted a weeks-long investigation into a UA student's report of sexual assault that had lasted several weeks.
