2 dead, 1 more shot near Point Loma High School – NBC 7 San Diego

According to San Diego police, first responders were dispatched to the neighborhood near Point Loma High School on Wednesday afternoon following a shooting.

Three people were shot, two fatally, when shots rang out near the intersection of Zola Street and Chatsworth Boulevard shortly before 4 p.m., SDPD Watch Commander Buttle told NBC 7.

The shooting occurred at a home on Zola Street, about a block from the high school and the Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist. At least a half-dozen squad cars are on the scene, and Zola Street is cordoned off with police lines from Chatsworth to Poinsettia Drive.

Police told NBC 7 that there was a victim in the backyard of a gray single-family home in Zola, and also in the front yard. It is unknown if this is related to the murders, but the garage door of the home appears to have been smashed in. The damage appears to be fresh, but there does not appear to have been a vehicle in the area that could have caused it.

NBC 7 asked SDPD officials if the shooter was in custody and received a response that they were not looking for the shooter. They did not say if the shooter was arrested or shot, only that the person responsible no longer posed a threat.

The last bell at PLHS will ring at 3:30 p.m. It is not yet known whether students were involved in the incident.

The circumstances leading to the shooting were not immediately clear.
