Woman sentenced to prison for spraying a child with pepper spray

According to reports, this is not the first time Sabrina Embrey has sprayed the child with pepper spray.

LA PLATA, Maryland – A Maryland woman was sentenced to prison Thursday for second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault.

Sabrina Cocheye Embrey was sentenced to six months in prison for an incident that occurred in the fall of 2023. On October 3, 2023, officers responded to a home in Waldorf and upon arrival found a 12-year-old who had been pepper sprayed.

An investigation revealed that Embrey and the child had gotten into an argument in Embrey's bedroom. As the argument escalated, Embrey threatened to pepper spray the child, after which he left her room.

But Embrey did not let up and followed the boy into his room. This caused the boy to react aggressively, and Embrey sprayed him with pepper spray.

This is reportedly not the first time Embrey has pepper-sprayed the child. In a previous incident under similar circumstances, Child Protective Services was called and Embrey was warned not to do it again.

During the trial, Assistant State Attorney Blaec Shaw said that Embrey “clearly provoked the victim throughout the entire incident” and that she “took actions both physically and psychologically that will have an impact forever [the victim].”

After his release, Embrey will be placed on probation for three years.
