Man arrested after death of infant found in bathtub at Connecticut motel

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant found in the bathtub of a Milford motel on Wednesday.

Shortly after 11 a.m., emergency crews responded to the Mayflower Motel on Woodmont Road after employees there reported that a cleaning worker had found an unconscious toddler in the bathtub of an evacuated room, according to Milford police.

Officers performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived and began life-saving measures, police said. The infant was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and pronounced dead shortly before noon, police said.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Bridgeport and Milford police departments and Connecticut State Police arrested suspect Dale Kirkland in Bridgeport at the corner of East Main Street and Berkshire Avenue, said Tiadora Josef, communications director for the city of Bridgeport.

According to Josef, there was an arrest warrant out for Kirkland in connection with the infant's death.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Milford Police Department and the Milford State Attorney's Office.

Further details were not immediately available.
