Memorial for the University of Idaho murder victims inaugurated in the new Healing Garden

MOSCOW, Idaho – Faculty and students gathered at the University of Idaho's new Vandal Healing Garden for a memorial service to remember the victims of a 2022 murder near the university's campus. A ceremony to officially open the garden will be held on the University of Idaho campus beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“The garden is an incredible reflection of our students and how much they cared about this project. It is a legacy that will outlast our time here. This student-led project shows the dedication, care and resilience of our student body. It truly shows what it means to be a Vandal and honors our lost Vandals in a beautiful way.”

Dean of Students Blaine Eckles

In the garden there is a sculpture commemorating the four University of Idaho students: Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, who were murdered in a house near the school campus in November 2022.

Students from the Faculty of Art and Architecture designed and created the garden. They want the garden to be a place of healing and reflection.

Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing the four young students, recently filed a change of venue for his upcoming trial, asking for a venue in Ada County.

The garden is located on MacLean Field between the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences Building and the Physical Education Building. The garden is open to the public, but no access to the memorial is permitted after 3:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the dedication.
