The boy's mother, Ocatavia Jackson, said she knew something was wrong as soon as she saw him.

“As I was walking to the store, I saw him crossing the street on his bike without looking to see if a car was coming, and he was breathing fast,” Jackson said. “I asked why he was doing that, and he said there was a guy up there trying to give me a ride.”

Alijah told his mother that Norvellino tried to kidnap him.

“My son told me they tried to get him to put his bike in his car. Then they went into the store and said, 'Come on, son, let's get some ice cream.' And the lady said, 'That's not your son, he comes here every day,'” Jackson said.

But the employee knew the little boy and knew that he was not the suspect's son. She called the police and told him to leave.
