According to the Greene County District Attorney's Office, Ezekia Kanyamihigo was sentenced to 22 to 25.5 years in prison.

Kanyamihigo had previously been found guilty of aggravated robbery, grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm despite illegal negligence.

On August 20, 2023, he approached a nurse as she attempted to enter her Fairborn apartment around 4 a.m.

He showed a gun and demanded that the nurse give him everything she had, prosecutors said.

When the nurse refused, Kanyamihigo fired a single shot that pierced the nurse's clothing before ricocheting off the stairwell and hitting the exterior facade of the apartment.

He then drove away from the scene of the accident at high speed.

The nurse was not injured.

Fairborn detectives learned that a similar robbery had occurred earlier that same day in Riverside.

A third armed robbery occurred on August 28, 2023 near Wright State University.

Based on cell phone data, investigators identified Kanyamihigo as a suspect.

Kanyamihigo eventually confessed to the crimes.
