Woman found stabbed to death in Flatlands home – NBC New York

A laundry basket, an umbrella and a teddy bear were visible through the open door of a house in Brooklyn. According to police, a 66-year-old woman was found stabbed to death there.

Neighbors who saw an ambulance and police officers on their block of East 56th Street in Flatlands Tuesday afternoon later learned they were not there for a death of natural causes. Police said a woman's body was found in her bedroom with stab wounds all over her body, including her face, chest and back.

It was not immediately clear how long the woman had been there. Police have not yet released any information about who might have killed the unidentified woman or why.

A woman who lived on the streets for a year told NBC New York she barely saw the woman.

“When I moved here, the windows were boarded up. Then I saw the boards were gone and I saw her watering with a little girl,” said neighbor Paula Thompson. “I say hello to everyone, but she just turns around, waters and goes inside. I don't know, maybe she doesn't understand me.”

The police could not yet confirm whether a child lived in the house.

At least three detectives remained on site on Wednesday evening and apparently concentrated for a while on a house further down the street. It is not known what role the other house plays in the investigation.

The cause of death is being determined by the New York City Medical Examiner.
