West Seattle Blog… | WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen Vanagon; more information on arrest

Three notes in West Seattle Crime Stoppers tonight:

STOLEN VANAGON: Sent by Jesse:

Unfortunately, my 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia was stolen today on SW Seattle Street sometime after 5pm. If you have any readers to keep an eye out for it, I would be very grateful. It has a Washington collector's plate with a license plate #BUB7527. The only other thing of note is that the roof rack is not currently on the vehicle. Police report number 24-236176.

Call 911 if you find it.

On Monday, we reported on SPD's Spotlight on two arrests that occurred in two separate incidents in West Seattle in the early morning hours of August 7, and promised to follow up on the suspects' status. We found that one suspect has been charged, but the other has not yet been:

WEAPON LOAD: 32 years old Robert C. Brown Jr. of Highland Park is charged with illegal possession of a firearm. He is the suspect who police say was arrested after an attempted burglary in South Delridge following a shooting incident in White Center. Charging documents say Brown was linked to the shooting incident because ammunition found in a gun he was carrying when he was arrested matched the shell casings at the crime scene. Police say he is a convicted felon and therefore is not allowed to possess a gun; that gun was not reported stolen but previously belonged to a “homicide victim in Federal Way,” according to police. His bail was set at $100,000 the day after his arrest; he was released after posting bond and is due back in court tomorrow for arraignment.

NOT YET CALCULATED: In the other arrest on Aug. 7, involving a man accused of breaking into Gatewood mailboxes, no charges have yet been filed against the 28-year-old suspect, who lives in Kent. The case had not been forwarded to prosecutors by the Aug. 9 deadline for filing breaking news reports, so he was released from jail. That doesn't mean he'll never be charged — sometimes charges aren't filed until weeks or even months after the arrest.
