Teenagers and innocent bystanders injured in triple shooting in Philadelphia's Tioga neighborhood; police say at least 21 shots were fired

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Three people were injured in a shooting in Philadelphia's Tioga neighborhood.

According to police, teenagers were walking at the corner of 19th Street and West Allegheny around 2 a.m. on Wednesday when, according to witnesses, an argument broke out between two groups and someone started shooting.

Two teenagers, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, were both shot in the legs. A 44-year-old bystander was also shot in the lower back.

“It appears the shooter fired into the crowd of youths,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. “All three of our victims were very, very lucky. They were all shot once and we know at least 21 shots were fired because we found 21 shell casings.”

A short time later, around 3 a.m., police responded to another shooting. According to authorities, two people walking a dog were shot by a man. The second shooting occurred at the intersection of Almond Street and East Elkhart Street in Porth Richmond.

Police found two victims: a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the arm and a 27-year-old man who had been shot in the neck, chest and abdomen. The 27-year-old man is said to be in critical condition and will undergo surgery.
