MEWPs achieve high prices at Euro Auctions

Sales at the last Euro Auctions event reached £41.2 million (US$54 million), with the catalogue featuring a record number of MEWPs, including 160 aerial work platforms and over 200 telehandlers.

Europe's largest auction house held a UK auction from July 31 to August 3, featuring over 7,500 lots from 650 vendors across 25 countries. A wide range of heavy machinery and equipment attracted buyers and sellers from around the world.

44% of buyers came from the UK, 49% from Europe and the rest from the rest of the world.

The largest buyer countries by bid amount were the United Kingdom (£18.3 million), the Republic of Ireland (£6.5 million), Spain (£2.1 million), Poland (£1.9 million) and Belgium (£1.9 million).

Online bidding accounted for 72% of all sales activity, and of the 1,500 buyers, 83% placed their bids online.

Antennas on offer

Scott McCall, Lifting and Access Manager at Euro Auctions, said the MEWP prices achieved at the auction were good. “There was a good balance in the 16-metre boom lifts in an overall strong market, with prices 8 to 10 per cent higher than the previous sale.”

UK rental company APL has brought an exceptional catalogue of machines to auction, McCall said. “While most brands sold well, some specialist machines attracted significant international interest, with many brands in high demand. The auction included significant consignments of Skyjack machines, which attracted exceptionally high bids, reflecting renewed interest in this brand.”

McCall added that volume did not translate into low prices as one might expect, proving that the buyer base was keen to find good, hire-ready machines. “The Access machines sold on Friday left the yard the same day and were ready to go, showing that there is clearly a pressing need in the UK market to get machines ready to go.”

About 30% of the machines sold remained in Great Britain, the rest went to Eastern Europe, Spain, the USA, India and Scandinavia.

“Feedback from buyers was immediate and positive, with many saying this was the best selection of lifting and access equipment ever offered for sale in one place. Agricultural telehandlers were particularly in demand.”
