Woman and child killed, 6 others injured in head-on collision on Airport Road in New Castle, Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) — A woman and a child were killed and at least six others injured in a head-on collision involving several vehicles in New Castle, Delaware.

The accident involved three vehicles and occurred on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Airport and Christiana Road.

In total, at least eight people were injured, but we are working to get an updated total from the Delaware State Police.

Action News has surveillance video to help us understand what happened.

In the video you can see the crash happening in the upper left corner of the screen.

While turning from Christiana Road onto Airport Road, a Kia collided head-on with a minivan, causing the minivan to roll over several times.

In addition, the Kia collides with another vehicle that comes to a stop in the gas station parking lot.

According to Action News, a second driver was injured and is expected to survive.

A male driver also suffered a broken leg and other injuries.

Two children were hospitalized in critical condition

Action News is trying to determine why the Kia reached such speeds before hitting the minivan and the other vehicles, and is also trying to determine how many people were in each vehicle.
