Central Florida mother faces felony charges after joining in fight at her daughter's bus stop – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

A fight between two Central Florida high school students took an unexpected turn when one of their mothers intervened, resulting in multiple charges, including a felony charge against the adult involved.

The incident, captured on video, initially shows a student attempting to break up a fight between two teenagers at a bus stop. As the situation escalated, several fights broke out simultaneously. The mother of one of the girls, Kathryn Stephanopoulos, intervened and allowed the confrontation to escalate into a more serious argument.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly confirmed that Stephanopoulos was present during the fight and decided to intervene after the initial exchange of words.

“She watches it for a while and then decides to intervene,” Sheriff Staly said.

The chaotic scene lasted about a minute before another person intervened and ended it.

Sheriff Staly stressed the importance of parents teaching their children constructive ways to resolve conflicts and warned that resorting to violence can have serious consequences.

“If you teach them that a conflict can be resolved through fighting, they will end up in prison,” he said.

Local resident Anthony, who lives near the bus stop, expressed his disbelief at the situation.

“I thought it was absolutely ridiculous,” he said. “I don't think an adult should try to harm a child.”

Stephanopoulos has been charged with aggravated child abuse, a felony. The two teenagers involved in the fight also face charges – her daughter on a felony charge and the other girl on a misdemeanor charge.
