Dan Hooker explains why McGregor should fight him and not Chandler

Dan Hooker is living the life of a man after defeating Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305 and is looking to follow up that upset win with a fight against Conor McGregor when “The Notorious” returns.

Hooker challenged McGregor in the cage after his split decision win, and he doesn't really care what happens to McGregor's current opponent, Michael Chandler, who has been under the red-shirt surveillance for two years.

“I think it's a smart decision,” Hooker told Submission Radio. “Are you going to fight a guy who's in the top five and has won three fights in a row? Or are you going to fight a guy who's not in the top five and just got a loss?”

“I stayed active and fought against the best guys in the world. It is what it is.” [McGregor] gets more out of fighting me than Chandler.”

With his victory over Gamrot, “The Hangman” climbed six positions in the lightweight rankings to number 5, one place ahead of Chandler, who is ranked number 6.

“My next fight will be a title eliminator,” Hooker explained. “That will be my next fight. So if he really wants to get back into it and really wants to earn a world title again, that makes a lot of sense.”

We doubt the UFC would treat Michael Chandler unfairly at this point, especially after dedicating an entire season of ESPN's The Ultimate Fighter to this fight. But if Chandler were to get injured? Well, the UFC has someone ready and willing to step in at any time.
