Commanders sign S. Sheldrick Redwine, release K. Riley Patterson

The Washington Commanders have signed safety Sheldrick Redwin and released kicker Riley Patterson.

Redwine, a fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019, has appeared in 34 games with eight starts. He has recorded 77 career tackles, one interception and three pass breakups.

Redwine spent his first two NFL seasons with the Browns, making his first start in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019. He began the rest of his rookie season with a career-high 42 stops.

Redwine was released before the 2021 season and signed with the New York Jets, where he moved between their active roster and practice squad. After a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins in October of the 2021 season and promoted to the active roster in December. He spent most of his time with the Dolphins on special teams.

Redwine signed with the Indianapolis Colts at the end of the 2022 season before being signed by the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent most of his time on the practice squad but was elevated to the active roster for the Cowboys' Week 12 game against the Commanders.
