Inmate dies in Allen County Jail, Indiana State Police still investigating | Local

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Allen County Jail.

Keimar Butler, 28, of Fort Wayne was found unconscious in a solitary cell around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

According to ISP, prison staff entered the cell at 6:31 p.m. to remove a window covering on the cell door and found Butler hanging from the bed frame by a bedsheet.

According to the ISP, prison staff had already checked Butler's cell at 5 p.m. and noticed nothing unusual.

According to ISP, prison staff attempted to resuscitate Butler, and he was taken to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

ISP investigators believe Butler committed suicide because he was alone in the cell.

According to ISP, no one else entered Butler's cell between the time prison staff checked him at 5 p.m. and the time his body was found.
