5 people arrested in drug raid in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – A joint investigation by a Baton Rouge-based group has resulted in several arrests and the seizure of various drugs.

According to Baton Rouge police, their SWAT team and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office SWAT team executed several search warrants on properties in the 2600 and 2800 blocks of 68th Street on Wednesday evening, August 21.

According to BRPD, law enforcement seized the following items from the apartments:

  • 4.9 grams of crack cocaine
  • 40 dosage units Tramadol
  • 40 dosage units MDMA
  • 137.6 grams of marijuana
  • 2 dosage units of Valium
  • 9.5 dosage units of Adderall
  • 72.5 dosage units Alprazolam
  • Four 16oz bottles of promethazine
  • Glock, Model 19, 9 mm

According to BRPD, the following arrests were made:

Cornell Brown, 23

  • Possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription
  • Simple possession of marijuana
  • Illegal carrying of a weapon containing a controlled dangerous substance
  • Distribution of Sch II drugs

Reco Andrews, 47

  • Bodily harm to a life partner/endangerment of a child
  • Second degree aggravated assault

Steven McCray, 25

  • Distribution of Sch I
  • Distribution of Sch II
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Michael McCray, 45

  • Distribution of Sch I
  • Distribution of Sch II
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Refugee from East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office

Marquis Payne, 21 (charges added from investigation)

  • Possession of a machine gun
  • Distribution of Sch II
  • Distribution of Sch I
  • Possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription
  • Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
  • Illegal carrying of a firearm containing a controlled dangerous substance
  • Criminal street gangs

Police said the investigation into the Baton Rouge-based group began in early April.

According to police, additional charges of belonging to a criminal street gang and other crimes committed by the suspects will be added in the near future.
