Megan Thee Stallion to host the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

The rapper is also nominated for five Moon Persons at this year's event, which takes place on September 11 at New York's UBS Arena

Megan Thee Stallion, who was nominated five times for the MTV Video Music Awards this year, will also serve as host of the event, which will take place on September 11 at the UBS Arena in New York. It will be the rapper's first time hosting an awards show.

Megan Thee Stallion takes over the hosting duties five years after she won her first Moon Person in 2019 when her single “Hot Girl Summer” won best power anthem. At this year's VMAs, Megan is nominated for five awards, including best collaboration for “Wanna Be” with GloRilla and best hip hop for “BOA.”

This year's artists so far include Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Rauw Alejandro, Camila Cabello, Benson Boone, GloRilla and Lisa. Katy Perry will receive the 2024 Vanguard Award and perform a medley from her entire career.

Taylor Swift led the pack with 10 VMA nominations, almost all of them for the visual for her Department for Tortured Poets Single featuring Post Malone, “Fortnight.” The single is nominated for the night's top award, Video of the Year, offering Swift a chance to score a record-breaking fifth win in the category. She's also nominated for Artist of the Year, while the “Fortnight” video received additional nominations for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and a number of technical categories; Malone also has nine nominations, thanks largely to “Fortnight.”

The 2024 VMAs were originally scheduled for September 10, but MTV postponed the ceremony by one day to avoid a programming clash with the presidential debate scheduled for the same day.
