Trial postponed for Groveton woman accused of murdering her boyfriend

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – The trial date for a Groveton woman accused of murdering her boyfriend in 2022 was postponed in a hearing Thursday.

Amanda Scogin Reynolds, 49, was charged with murder in Angelina County after she said she shot her boyfriend, John Carnahan, during a physical altercation on Sept. 15, 2022. Reynolds appeared for a pretrial hearing in Judge Todd Kassaw's court on Thursday, where her trial date was postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

Reynolds' case was discussed in the absence of her public defender and in the presence of a substitute attorney. It was decided that her trial, originally scheduled for September of this year, would be postponed to a later date to make room for other proceedings.

According to reports, a Hudson police officer stopped the suspect during her arrest for speeding and noticed blood on her clothing.

During questioning, Reynolds allegedly admitted to shooting Carnahan and led officers to her home, where they found him dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Reynolds' next court date is scheduled for September 19, but more hearings are expected before then.
