The nationwide price of gasoline in Texas drops below $3.00 per gallon

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Just before Labor Day, the average price per gallon of gasoline in the state of Texas fell below $3.00, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.99, five cents less than last week and 47 cents less per gallon than the same day last year.

Drivers in the Brownsville-Harlingen and Laredo metropolitan areas pay about $3.05 per gallon. Drivers in the Lubbock metropolitan area pay the least for gas, at $2.78 per gallon.

The national average is $3.38 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, six cents per gallon less than last week and 47 cents per gallon less than last year.

“Texans planning a Labor Day road trip will pay less at the pump than last year,” said Doug Shupe, AAA Texas representative. “AAA Texas encourages drivers to save even more on fuel costs by storing all their luggage in the car instead of using over-seat luggage racks, obeying speed limits and making sure tires are properly inflated before driving.”

According to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average price per gallon last fell below $3.00 per gallon in March 2024.

Oil prices have fallen over the past week due to global demand concerns.
