Sheriff: Suspect in Crawford County murder case dies after standoff

When U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest the suspect, a standoff ensued, the press release said.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. – The suspect in the killing of a woman found dead on the side of the road in Crawford County committed suicide as police attempted to arrest him, according to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office.

They say 52-year-old Timothy Lamar Crow of Baldwin County was wanted in the death of 35-year-old Callie Brooke Goolgsby, who was found dead on the side of Smith Chapel Road on August 8.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations, which took over the case, obtained an arrest warrant for Crow on August 16, the press release said.

But when U.S. Marshals found Crow in Rockdale County, Crow said he committed suicide after a standoff with authorities.

Crow was charged with first-degree murder, premeditated murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain crimes.

Goolsby was previously taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. According to her obituary, she was the daughter of Forsyth City Council member Greg Goolsby.
