Viral sensation Stephen “Pommel Horse Guy” Nedoroscik brings talent to “Dancing With the Stars”

American gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik recently rose to prominence with his performance at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Nedoroscik, known online as the “Pommel Horse Guy,” will soon enter a new arena – the ballroom. Nedoroscik has been selected for the upcoming season of the long-running reality competition series “Dancing with the Stars.”

The rest of the final season's competitors have yet to be announced. Robin Roberts, a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and co-host of “Good Morning America,” said Nedoroscik will be the first male gymnast to compete on the show.

Nedoroscik left Paris with two bronze medals, one in the pommel horse and another in the men's team all-around. Nedoroscik helped the American men's team win its first Olympic medal in 16 years.

Nedoroscik made headlines during the Games in late July as he waited for his chance to secure a place on the podium with a pommel horse performance in the team final.

The camera covering the Paris Olympics showed Nedoroscik mentally preparing for his competition – no, he wasn't sleeping – while he watched his teammates Frederick Richard, Brody Malone, Paul Juda and Asher Hong compete in the other events. Nedoroscik was only needed for the pommel horse.

His Superman-like transformation before falling to the ground (he takes off his glasses, just like Clark Kent) also caught the attention of observers.

The Penn State engineering graduate was well aware of the photos of him circulating on the Internet at the time.

“The memes are hilarious and I love them all,” Nedoroscik told the Associated Press in Paris.

Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough return as hosts for the 33rd season of “Dancing With the Stars”.

And what about the iconic glasses that are an indelible part of Nedoroscik’s look?

“Maybe I enjoy it. I'm afraid they'll fly away, that's the problem,” Nedoroscik, who suffers from an eye disease called coloboma, told the hosts. “Maybe we could make a gadget that keeps them on? Maybe a new pair of glasses, to match the theme?”
