More information on NKY licenses for medical pharmacies published

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – More information has been released about new medical marijuana dispensaries set to open in Northern Kentucky.

As of Tuesday, only two companies in the nine-county Northern Kentucky region had filed applications.

The executive director of Kentucky's medical cannabis program told Local 12 that five more applications have been received since then. There are currently more than 200 applications for the 48 dispensary licenses across the state.

“And we expect that number to increase over the next 10 days. As far as applications go, I think it's hard to speculate, first of all, how many applications will be made in any particular region. We've seen a significant increase in all regions,” said Sam Flynn, executive director of Kentucky Medical Cannabis.

The application deadline is the end of August. A lottery for the licenses will then take place in early October. Northern Kentucky will receive a total of four of these licenses.

Kentucky will then begin issuing health insurance cards to individuals on January 1, with sales expected to begin shortly thereafter.
