Grand Island attempted murder case goes to district court

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska (KSNB) – The case against a Grand Island woman accused of attacking her sister with a knife will head to District Court.

Julissa Trevino, 23, waived her preliminary hearing on Thursday.

She is charged with attempted premeditated murder, two counts of using a deadly weapon to commit a crime and aggravated assault. Three charges of child abuse were dropped.

This all stems from an incident last month in Grand Island.

Officers responded to a belated report of a stabbing attack that allegedly occurred at a home on East 11th Street on the evening of July 15.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police that she and her sister were having a verbal argument when Trevino walked through the kitchen where the victim was standing and grabbed a butcher knife.

Trevino said the victim hit her and she couldn't remember what happened after that.

The victim told police that Trevino then attacked her with the knife approximately eight times, inflicting various cuts on her head, face and arm.

According to court documents, the victim had to have three staples on the top of her head and eight stitches on her chin.

Grand Island police stated in the affidavit that Trevino demonstrated premeditation by grabbing the knife and stabbing the victim prior to the attack, which could have resulted in death, and that he inflicted serious bodily injury on the victim by striking her multiple times in the face and head with the knife.

Three children were present at the time and observed the events.

Trevino is scheduled to appear in District Court for arraignment at 9 a.m. on September 17.
