Pittsburgh police sergeant charged with time theft resigns – WPXI

PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh police sergeant who was charged in June with theft by deception and unauthorized use of a computer has now retired from the force.

He was on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

“After 12 years, he loves Pittsburgh and he loved his job, but I think every police officer knows the job is getting harder and harder,” said Marckisotto's attorney, Phil DiLucente.

In June, Marckisotto was accused of stealing time while working off-duty as a security guard at Target in East Liberty.

According to investigators, Marckisotto received more than $5,000 for hours he never worked.

Investigators discovered the discrepancies when they compared the timesheets with surveillance videos and statements from other officers who had observed Marckisotto.

Marckisotto had waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

His attorney said they were able to reach an agreement with the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.

Marckisotto will enter the accelerated rehabilitation program for first-time offenders, where his record will ultimately be expunged if he stays out of trouble during a probationary period.

“When you go through the expedited rehabilitation process that only the District Attorney offers under the law, we are very, very grateful that this opportunity has arisen and he can put it behind him. Let's be clear that he is grateful that the District Attorney's Office offered ARD under these circumstances,” DiLucente said.

Marckisotto will appear in court on Friday for formal arraignment.

“Is he disappointed that he had to resign? I think so, but I also think he was expressing that he knows that it's a big world out there and that there are a lot of job opportunities in other areas,” DiLucente said.
