The “Attire for Hire” event collects clothing for job interviews

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Ross IES and the Workforce Development Board of the Mid-Ohio Valley are collaborating to develop an Attire-for-Hire program.

The program wants to collect clothing, shoes, hygiene products and more to help people get interviews. While getting interviews is important, the program also wants to reach out to people who have a job and may not have the right clothing.

Career specialist Leigha Robinson, who helps people find their way back into work every day, recognized a need in this area.

“As a career specialist, we work with the community to help people overcome barriers that prevent them from re-entering the workforce or getting a job. As a case manager, I've been here for a little over a year and I've found that I've had several clients myself who have struggled to get employment or even job interviews because they weren't wearing the right clothes,” Robinson said.

Six collection bins will be installed throughout the state:

– 600 18th Street (Parkersburg)

– 20 Stone Drive (Ripley)

– 50 Senior Citizens Circle (Elizabeth)

– 811 Madison Avenue Suite 315 (Spencer)

– 621 Viand Street (Point Pleasant)

This program is currently in the collection phase and they hope to distribute clothing by the first week of September.
