2 teenagers arrested after carrying weapons on various school premises

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – Two teens were arrested after allegedly bringing weapons to school on Thursday, Aug. 22, officials said.

The following is from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office:

Officers responded to a report of a 16-year-old 10th grader at McKinley High School who was in possession of a .40 caliber pistol with a built-in switch that made the weapon fully automatic. School officials discovered the weapon in the student's school bag along with a separate loaded magazine. The student was taken into juvenile detention for illegal possession of a weapon in a gun-free zone and unauthorized handling of a machine gun. The weapon was reported missing in another municipality.

Officers also responded to a call at Belaire High School, where a 16-year-old 10th grader was found in possession of a firearm. The firearm was found in the student's locker by school personnel following an anonymous report. The weapon, a .45 caliber pistol, was not loaded at the time of discovery. The student was taken into juvenile detention for illegally carrying a weapon in a gun-free zone and possession of a weapon as a juvenile.

Officials are not aware of any threats being made against other students during the incidents.
