Arrest operation shakes up drug trafficking in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Law enforcement reports Fairbanks' drug world took a hit during a two-day operation last week.

More than 40 officers from over a dozen local, state and federal agencies participated in the operation on August 14 and 15, aimed at disrupting drug trafficking and related criminal activity. Officers made contact with approximately 204 individuals and conducted 105 traffic stops. A total of 32 arrests were made, 23 of which were based on existing warrants.

“Your Alaska State Troopers work tirelessly to keep harmful drugs off our streets and make Alaska a safer place to live, work, visit and raise a family,” said Colonel Maurice Hughes, Alaska State Troopers Director. “With the support of our local, state and federal partners, we will continue to conduct operations like this and hold those responsible for deaths in our state accountable for their actions.”

The crime-fighting operation was a joint effort by the U.S. Marshals, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Alaska State Park Rangers, Alaska Department of Corrections, Alaska State Troopers, and police departments from Fairbanks, North Pole, Wasilla, Anchorage, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fairbanks International Airport, and North Slope Borough.
