Arizona man arrested on suspicion of threatening Trump on social media

Police have arrested an Arizona man who allegedly threatened to kill Donald Trump following a manhunt during the former president's visit to the border state.

According to police, Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, of Cochise County has made death threats against Trump in social media posts over the past two weeks.

Trump was in Cochise County on Thursday and visited the US border with Mexico.

Last month, Trump was grazed by a bullet in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office said Syrvud is also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.

There are several arrest warrants against him in Wisconsin and Arizona, including for drunk driving and hit-and-run.

According to police, he is from Benson, Arizona, which is about 50 miles southeast of Tucson.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday afternoon that the suspect was arrested within county lines.

“The person was arrested without incident,” the office said in a statement.

Trump spent Thursday in Cochise County and visited the US-Mexico border.

In his remarks, he tried to blame his rival, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, for allowing illegal immigrants into the United States.

Reporters asked him if he knew about the manhunt for the Cochise County suspect.

“No, I haven't heard that, but I'm not particularly surprised and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said.

This is not the first threat against a presidential candidate this election cycle.

At the beginning of the month, a 66-year-old man from Virginia was arrested on charges including making death threats against Vice President Harris.
