OT Wanya Morris leaves the KC Chiefs' preseason finale against the Chicago Bears with a knee injury

In Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears, the Kansas City Chiefs left many of their players on the bench in an effort to keep them healthy for the regular season. Unfortunately, a promising young offensive lineman was forced out of the team's final preseason game due to injury.

Offensive tackle Wanya Morris left Thursday's game in the first quarter. Team reporter Matt McMullen said during the game broadcast that Morris suffered a knee injury and will not return, ending his 2024 season schedule.

It's been a rough final month for Morris, who was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Kansas City last year. In order to complete training camp and continue the preseason, he's already been dealing with a shoulder injury and a bone bruise in his knee. It's not confirmed if Thursday's injury is to the same leg, but Morris was seen leaving the field while clutching his knee and later being tended to on the on-field medical training table.

Morris was replaced by Chukwuebuka Godrick after his injury. Lucas Niang and Ethan Driskell are other reserve offensive tackles on the team behind rookie Kingsley Suamataia (left) and veteran Jawaan Taylor (right).

If Morris is out for an extended period of time, it's hard to be particularly excited about the club's current depth at the tackle position. In that case, adding a veteran player could make sense. Perhaps it's a reunion with Donovan Smith, who started most of Kansas City's games in the 2023-24 season and for whom Morris filled in during his injury.

At the start of the offseason, Smith indicated that he was ready to help the Chiefs on their way to a third consecutive win.

“That's the way you do it,” Smith said. “Three wins in a row? Just having that award under your belt, having your name in the history books three times in a row. You have to double check and look at it like, 'Wait a minute, did they blow that?'”
