Man charged in fatal shooting of teenager in Algonquin neighborhood

A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting in the Algonquin neighborhood that left a teenager dead. The shooting occurred June 8 at the Thorntons' home on the corner of Dixie Highway and West Hill Street. The Louisville Metro Police Department was called to the scene and found 16-year-old Sam Kamara and another boy who had been shot. The boys were taken to the hospital, where Kamara died. Police said the other boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries. LMPD arrested Damari Walls-Medlock on Thursday and charged him with aiding and abetting murder and aiding and abetting assault. An arrest warrant states police pulled surveillance video from the Thorntons that showed Walls-Medlock and “an unidentified accomplice” approaching a vehicle containing the two boys and then shooting them. The victims attempted to drive away but crashed shortly afterward. After his arrest, police said Walls-Medlock admitted to being on surveillance video. He told police he was armed and struggled with one of the victims for his gun.

After his arrest, police said Walls-Medlock admitted to being seen on surveillance video. He told police he was armed and struggled with one of the victims for his weapon.
