Man and woman killed in car crash in Elyria 2

Elyria, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-car crash that occurred Thursday on State Route 57 at Griswold Road in Elyria.

According to OSHP, at about 3:20 p.m., a Nissan Altima driven by 40-year-old Brandan Ryan of Amherst, traveling north on State Route 57, ran a red light and collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by 48-year-old Robert Vormelker of Lorain as it turned onto Griswold Road.

According to OSHP, an Elyria police officer attempted to stop the Altima immediately before the crash.

The Altima's two passengers, 36-year-old Tanner Smith of Cleveland and 36-year-old Meghan Incorvaia of Wakeman, died at the scene of the accident.

Ryan was flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland with life-threatening injuries.

According to OSHP, the Altima's occupants were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Vormelker was taken by ambulance to UH Elyria Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Elyria Police Department, Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Amherst Police Department, North Ridgeville Police Department, Elyria Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, Lorain County Coroner's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation and Sugar Ridge Towing & Recycling.

The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed so far.
