Douglas Coleman III taken off the field on a stretcher

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Chicago Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III was carried off the field on a stretcher at Arrowhead Stadium during a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

Coleman was injured early in the third quarter when he attempted to tackle Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell. Coleman grabbed Powell's arm by his head and he fell to the ground without moving.

Players from both teams knelt as medical personnel tended to Coleman, restrained him on a board and then placed him on a stretcher and an ambulance. Bears players and coaches came from the sidelines to support Coleman as he was taken away.

Coleman, 26, played in the Canadian Football League in 2022 and 2023. The Bears signed him to a contract in January.

The Bears did not provide an immediate update on Coleman's condition.

The Bears suffered several injuries in their last preseason game.

Offensive tackle Larry Borom apparently sustained an injury to his right leg during the offense's second drive and had to be carted off the field.

It was a serious injury in a game without a starter, as Borom was supposed to be the Bears' swing tackle this season, backing up left tackle Braxton Jones and right tackle Darnell Wright.

Borom, a 2021 fifth-round pick, has started 23 games for the Bears and played in 39 over the past three seasons.

Wide receiver Nsimba Webster also left the field on a cart after being injured in the second quarter.
