Driver dies, 2 injured in 6-car crash on bridge near Camas

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) – One person is dead and two are hospitalized following a six-car crash Thursday on Highway 14 near Camas, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Around midday, a westbound trailer carrying a prefab home got stuck on the Camas Slough Bridge east of Vancouver. The westbound lane to the bridge was completely closed.

According to police, when traffic began to back up, a westbound driver who was stuck in the traffic jam attempted to turn around.

As they attempted to turn, they collided with an oncoming car traveling east, according to police. The impact pushed the turning car back into four other westbound cars.

The driver who attempted to make a U-turn was the only person in his car and died at the scene. Passengers in two other of the six cars involved were injured and taken to hospital.

SR 14 was closed in both directions at Mile 15 and Sixth Street for hours.
