LMPD releases further details on safety plan in Highlands

Although the department is still short some officers, patrols in the Highlands are covered by a few officers working overtime or special shifts.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Louisville Metro Police have released new details on updated safety plans for the Highlands.

The incident occurred after shootings occurred near several late-night businesses on Baxter Avenue.

The new security measures are the result of a partnership between the city government, Alcoholic Beverage Control and the LMPD.

These include increased patrols to detect violations and the installation of surveillance cameras.

Lt. Col. Emily McKinley told WHAS11 News that LMPD has a unit that patrols the area and that they try to make their officers visible to the public.

“We encourage our officers to interact with the public, to get information from them and for the public to interact with our officers,” she said. “We want that positive interaction, that's why we did this, so people can see our officers, they can see our vehicles on the road.”

Although the department is still short some officers, patrols in the Highlands are covered by a few officers working overtime or special shifts.
