1 dead and 2 injured in traffic accident in Coosa County

A 16-year-old youth was killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Coosa County.

According to police, the accident occurred around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Coosa County 150 and US 231, about five miles south of Sylacauga.

The teenager was fatally injured when his 2021 Nissan Altima was struck by a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Police said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old who was riding in the Altima was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Freightliner was also injured and taken to Russell Medical Center in Alexander City for treatment.

The ALEA Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the accident.
