Former HC officer convicted in Haryana judicial review leak case | India News

CHANDIGARH: A special Court in Delhi sentenced on Thursday Balwinder Kumar Sharmaformer Registrar (Recruitment) of Punjab & Haryana HC, and two women candidates in connection with a 2017 leak in the Haryana Civil Services (Judiciary) examination. Sharma was sentenced to five years. The case was transferred from Chandigarh to Delhi in February 2021. SC Policyreports Ajay Sura.
Paper leaks have serious consequences. They lead to the postponement and cancellation of exams. They not only have a negative impact on the public employment system and applicants, but also undermine the trust of society as a whole. A clear signal must be sent against such offenses,” the court said.
The two contestants were Sushila and Sunita. Sunita (general) and Sushila (reserved) scored highest in their respective categories with exceptionally high marks. Like Balwinder, the court sentenced Sunita to a maximum term of five years under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Balwinder was fined Rs 1.5 lakh and Sunita Rs 60,000.
Sushila was convicted only under Section 411 of the IPC. Considering her poor health, the court sentenced her to serve the prison term already served during the trial and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000. There were nine accused in the case. The remaining six were acquitted.
