Man arrested after shooting woman in Rexburg

REXBURG – A man is in custody after a woman was found shot to death Thursday night.

According to a Rexburg Police press release, Rexburg police officers were called around 11:15 p.m. to a report of shots fired on Lilac Street in the Mill Hollow neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found that a woman had been shot multiple times.

“The police and paramedics immediately initiated life-saving measures,” the press release states. “Despite these efforts, the woman was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.”

A man was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released, but police say this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. People are being asked to avoid the area while officers continue their investigation.

“The Rexburg Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” the press release said.
